French Gardens, Love Letters and Vanitas
Cake Opera Co. at The Wedding Show
The Wedding Co.’s annual Wedding Show is an event that you will surely find both newly engaged couples and industry folk feverishly flocking to. For us, this spectacular affair is not only a great way to reunite with peers & meet new clients, but it is also a venue where Cake Opera Co. can stage its inventive imagination and provocative themes.
This year, our avant garde black and white cake display was inspired by several different evocative themes. We explored the art of calligraphy, the naivete of love letters and the randomness of spilled ink. We also drew inspiration from the manicured gardens of Versailles; sculpted hedges of black rose bushes made from fabric and paper sprouting cakes instead of neoclassical fountains. Finally, decadent black lobsters and jewel encrusted oysters suggest a definite influence by 17th century Dutch Still Lifes and often morose symbolism in Vanitas paintings.

Celebrating 10 Years of The Wedding Show
A room full of excited guests and longtime supporters, several with teary eyes, listen on as the lovely Catherine Lash reveals her most cherished moments as the wonderful & passionate director of The Wedding Co. Among those on her list of gracious “thank-yous” was Cake Opera Co. for designing The Wedding Co.’s 10th Anniversary cake. We had the honour of creating the four tiered cassis & lavender flavoured confection, adorned with a cascade of paper cranes modeled from sugar. The crane is a symbol of happiness and prosperity, two things we wish The Wedding Co. will always have plenty of.

Cake Opera Co. Now Open
Ladies and Gentlemen….
Imagine yourself for a moment standing in a dimly lit room. Walls of towering shelves surround you, thick with the dust of time. Each shelf is crowded with bell jars containing history’s most extraordinary and exotic specimens. Flowers, silks, shells and beautiful beasts, all encased within an armor of glass, their strange beauty frozen in time…
This is the world of wonders in which Cake Opera Co. finds its muse.
Pleased by the amount of interest in our artistic process, Cake Opera Co. is delighted to share a glimpse into what inspires us to create our cakes and confections; a journal dedicated to exploring our methods and motivation as well as a place where we can simply celebrate the captivating union of art and pastry.
And now if you will please take your seat,
The show is about to begin….
